Target Audience:  Licensed/Certified Medical Professional (i.e. PT, OT), Rehab Professional (ATP, SMS, CRTS), Reimbursement & Billing Specialists

Course Description:   Wheeled mobility devices are considered one of the most important Assistive Technology (AT) Devices. The final choice of wheelchair and seating system often involves a compromise between meeting the client’s goals, environmental and reimbursement constraints, and the best choice of technology. Clinicians and ATP Suppliers bring a very specialized and unique, but complimentary set of skills to the evaluation process. Although these skills and responsibilities are different between the therapist and supplier, it critical to the overall process, that each professional understand the other’s responsibilities and skill sets. This class will take a multidisciplinary look, based on the RESNA Wheelchair Service Provision Guide, to provide each the supplier and clinician with the knowledge of the seating and wheeled mobility evaluation process.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of the course the participant will be able to:

  1. Apply the Wheelchair service Provision Guide to the evaluation for seating and wheeled mobility technology.
  2. Distinguish the roles of the team members involved in the seating and wheeled mobility evaluation process.
  3. Interpret 3 pieces of objective data and apply the data to the recommendation of an appropriate mobility base.

Pre-requisites:  This is a two-part course that requires the LCMP OT/PT and the ATP to have a basic understanding of a seating and wheeled mobility evaluation.  This course will focus heavily on the approach of two seasoned evaluating clinicians (OT/PT and ATP) to discuss the things that each of us are doing while completing the complex assistive technology evaluation. A basic understanding of wheeled mobility seating terminology and available equipment options will be used throughout the presentation without description of each term.
