Course Description: This course will examine an introductory holistic perspective of working with AAC and Power Mobility. Topics covered will be working with a client’s posture in a power chair for maximum functionality of driving and communicating, optimal placement of wheelchair mounts for speech generating devices, and integrating speech generating devices with power wheelchairs to accomplish EADLs.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of the course the participant will be able to:
- List 3 types of wheelchair mounts available for SGDs today, and define unique characteristics of each.
- List 2 dimensions of the power wheelchair that are affected by the addition of a speech generating device and define how these changes affect home access.
- List and recognize 3 electronic activities of daily living (EADLs) that a power chair and SGD can be used in tandem to perform.
